Neo Legacy MainNet to stop GAS generation at block height 8,000,000: Neo-CLI node updates required in advance
The Neo Legacy MainNet is scheduled to halt GAS generation at block height 8,000,000. Prior to this milestone, users running Neo-CLI nodes (including exchanges, wallets, and projects) on Neo Legacy must upgrade to the latest Neo-CLI version, Neo-CLI v2.13.0. This data retention upgrade is backward compatible and applies to all Neo-CLI nodes on Neo Legacy.
Neo-CLI v2.13.0 was released on September 7, 2021. The corresponding TestNet was set up at 08:00 a.m. GMT on September 7, 2021. If this TestNet runs smoothly, NGD will run the Neo Legacy MainNet upgrade at 08:00 a.m. GMT on September 13, 2021.
Following this upgrade, the upgraded Neo Legacy will be enabled to stop GAS generation once the block height reaches 8,000,000. Total GAS supply will be fixed at 52,000,000, in alignment with the starting supply of GAS on Neo N3. Based on the current block-out speed, Neo Legacy is expected to reach the 8,000,000 block height in mid to late September.
This upgrade is a requirement to ensure consistency in the total GAS supply on Neo Legacy and Neo N3 and provide continuity for users participating in N3 governance. Although Neo Legacy will stop generating GAS, any Neo holders with remaining GAS on Neo Legacy will continue to be able to claim it.
Neo-CLI v2.13.0 is available for download now at the Neo Project GitHub.
