Welcome to the dawn of a new era as we prepare to launch Neo X. Today, we are excited to reveal the visual identity for Neo X, Neo’s own EVM-based sidechain. Join us as we recount how Neo X got its name, explore the story behind its striking logo, and discuss the creative thinking that shaped the new brand.

Neo X: What’s in A Name?

In October 2023, Da Hongfei, founder of Neo, formally announced plans to launch an EVM-compatible, MEV-resistant sidechain during the grand finale of our APAC Hackathon Tour in Hong Kong. This announcement set the course for Neo’s most significant undertaking since the upgrade from Neo Legacy to Neo N3.

Recognizing the importance of our community in shaping our identity, we invited you all to name the project through a social media campaign. The response was overwhelming, with around 300 creative submissions pouring in from all corners of the world.

The top 20 entries were selected by the Neo team and shared with the community to choose the ultimate winner. Among the suggestions, one name stood out: Neo X, proposed by a talented Korean developer. In his proposal, he explained:

"I believe that the core value of 'neo-sidechain' lies in its ability to establish a connection with the existing EVM. That’s why I used 'X' to signify fusion. Moreover, maintaining consistency by using 'X' after 'N' seemed appropriate. It also has a pleasant pronunciation. Neo X!"

The community voted, and Neo X emerged as the clear favorite, becoming the name for our new sidechain.

The Neo X brand: A new identity

With the name chosen, it was time to establish the visual identity. The NGD Marketing team collaborated closely with the Product Experience team over many iterations of logo types, fonts, colors, and concepts.

Several key points were crucial in creating the Neo X brand. Firstly, it had to fit into the existing Neo brand framework while still having its own distinct flavor and energy. Secondly, it had to embody the goals of the Neo X project—building a sidechain that is inclusive, welcoming, and accessible. Lastly, the visual language had to extend our creative palette just as Neo X extends our ecosystem.

With that in mind, we are delighted to officially reveal the Neo X logo.

The Neo X logo is more than just a visual identifier; it encapsulates the essence of Neo X. Building on the geometric shape of the iconic Neo door, the Neo X logo retains a familiar shape but with a fresh twist. The "X" signifies fusion and connection, embodying the community's spirit and youthful energy. Its soft edges create a welcoming feeling, while its bold lines make a statement that X is here to stamp its place in the blockchain ecosystem.

The introduction of new colors to the Neo X brand palette further encapsulates what Neo X means for Neo at a fundamental level—we’re going places we’ve never gone before. Purple and magenta join the existing Neo green and an updated shade of blue. This extension of our visual toolkit parallels the extension of Neo into the EVM space, while the introduction of gradients symbolizes the smooth fusion between the N3 and EVM ecosystems.

Fonts, iconography, and more

Along with the new logo and colors, the overall Neo brand will be updated to introduce new fonts, iconography styles, and mixed photographic design elements. These changes are designed to modernize Neo’s look and feel as we move into this new chapter.
